CBB Injuries & Updates from Sun. March 21

Returning to action on Sunday included Omar Payne (Florida) after a one game suspension and Bryce Williams (Oklahoma State) after an illness.

Playing through injuries were DeJon Jarreau (Houston), Myles Johnson (Rutgers), and Tyree Appleby (Florida).

Suffering in-game injuries were DeJon Jarreau (Houston) who aggravated the hip pointer injury in the second half but was able to play through the pain after sitting out for a stint, and Gianni Hunt (Oregon State) left the game in the first half with an apparent back injury after taking a hard fall but was able to return after being evaluated, however I don’t believe he played in the second half.

Notables remaining out included Rubin Jones (North Texas).

In injury updates, Jalen Wilson (Kansas) is expected to be available Monday night, Josh Primo (Alabama) was called day to day, likely a game-day decision, and Both Gach (Minnesota) had foot surgery.

A notable name in the transfer portal from more major conferences was CJ Felder (Boston College).

Announcing transfer destinations was Kenny Fisher (Illinois State to UTEP).

  • FloridaOmar Payne returned to action (disciplinary) – 4 pts/11 mins, Tyree Appleby started (head laceration) – 14 pts/36 mins
  • Both Gach, Minnesota – underwent foot surgery on Thursday
  • Bryan Griffin, Xavier – announces he is moving on from Xavier, unclear what is next – 3.9 ppg
  • Gianni Hunt, Oregon State – left the game in the first half with an apparent back injury after taking a hard fall but was able to return after being evaluated, however I don’t believe he played in the second half. FWIW, after the game he tweeted “I’m good and healthy”
  • DeJon Jarreau, Houston – started (hip pointer) – 17 pts/32 mins, took a shot to the hip in the second half and came out of the game for a while but returned to action, was clearly in pain as he played after that

  • Josh Primo, Alabama – still hasn’t practiced fully, called day to day, likely a game-day decision Monday, hopeful 100% by next weekend

  • Bryce Williams, Oklahoma State – returned to action (illness) – 4 pts/11 mins
  • Jalen Wilson, Kansas – will arrive Monday morning and is expected to play Monday night, could be limited

CBB Injuries & Updates from Sat. March 20

On Saturday newly sitting out were Jalen Wilson (Kansas) due to covid protocols, De’Vion Harmon (Oklahoma) due to covid protocols, Rodney Chatman (Dayton) due to a lower body injury suffered last game, RJ Blakney (Dayton) due to an undisclosed injury, and Justin McKoy (Virginia) due to covid protocols.

Returning to action included David McCormack (Kansas) and Shereef Mitchell (Creighton).

Playing through injuries were Johnny Juzang (UCLA), RJ Cole (UConn), Ajare Sanni (UCSB), & ShanQuan Hemphill (Drake).

Suffering in-game injuries were MJ Walker (Florida State) who briefly left the game in the 2nd half with an ankle injury but returned to action, and Dominick Welch (St Bonaventure) left the game for a while in the 1st half with an ankle injury, got it re-taped and was able to return (postgame pics revealed a badly sprained ankle).

Notables remaining out included Isaiah Livers (Michigan), Tristan Enaruna (Kansas), Alex Lomax (Memphis), and Josh Primo (Alabama).

In injury updates, Tyree Appleby (Florida) is a GTD Sunday, Myles Johnson (Rutgers) did not practice Saturday but hopes to play (Sunday morning was said to be available), DeJon Jarreau (Houston) was going to try to practice Saturday and Sunday morning was called a GTD, and Bryce Williams (Oklahoma State) is hopeful for Sunday.

A notable names in the transfer portal from more major conferences was Tyler Harris (Iowa State).

Announcing a transfer destination was Jayce Johnson (MTSU to Siena).

CBB Injuries & Updates from Fri. March 19

On Friday newly sitting out were Moses Wright (Georgia Tech) due to covid protocols, Devontae Shuler (Ole Miss) who was away from the team for a family medical situation, KJ Buffen (Ole Miss) who opted out and entered the transfer portal before the NIT, Omar Payne (Florida) as a disciplinary coach’s decision, and Bryce Williams (Oklahoma State) who was reported on a pregame radio show to be limited after a recent stomach bug.

Returning to action included Jaylin Williams (Arkansas), Jamarius Burton (Texas Tech), and J’Wan Roberts (Houston).

Suffering in-game injuries were Tyree Appleby (Florida) who took an elbow to the head in the second half, was clearly bleeding and needed to be helped to the locker room, received stitches in the locker room, then came back to the bench area in overtime with a bandage on his head, DJ Mitchell (Hartford) suffered a foot/ankle injury in the first minute of the game and did not return, and Josiah-Jordan James (Tennessee) left the game in the second half with an ankle injury, got it wrapped, was moving around on the sideline and said to be expected to return (I think he briefly returned but I’m not 100%, season is done anyway).

Other in-game injuries included DeJon Jarreau (Houston) who injured his hip in the first minute of the game, went to the locker room, and was said to be questionable to return and did not due to a hip pointer (more below), Justin Gorham (Houston) twisted an ankle in the second half but returned to action, and Myles Johnson (Rutgers) limped off the court in the final minutes of the game with an apparent ankle injury.

Notables remaining out included Kyle Young (Ohio State), Jalen Cone (Virginia Tech), Rubin Jones (North Texas), and John Fulkerson (Tennessee).

In injury updates, RJ Cole (UConn) has been cleared to play Saturday, Shereef Mitchell (Creighton) will play Saturday, and Johnny Juzang (UCLA) will play Saturday.

CBB Injuries & Updates from Thur. March 18

On Thursday newly sitting out were Feron Hunt (SMU) with an ankle injury, Darius McNeill (SMU) who was described as a late scratch, and Max Rice (Boise State) with a foot injury that will require surgery.

Returning to action included ShanQuan Hemphill (Drake), Isaiah Poor Bear-Chandler (Wichita State), & Yor Anei (SMU).

Suffering an apparent in-game injury but returning to action was Marcus Bingham (Michigan State) who in the first half limped to the bench area and went to the ground to be looked at by a trainer, but was able to play again in the second half. Johnny Juzang (UCLA) appeared to turn his ankle in the final minute of overtime and was helped off the court by his teammates not putting any weight on his right leg.

In injury & other updates, KeShawn Curry (VCU) will still be away from the team Saturday, and RJ Cole (UConn) was expected to fully practice and be cleared from concussion protocol Thursday.

In Tuesday injury updates, Posh Alexander (St John’s) had thumb surgery after returning for just one game after dealing with a thumb injury, RJ Cole (UConn) is still in concussion protocol, Jalen Cone (Virginia Tech) will not play Friday, ShanQuan Hemphill (Drake) is on track to play Thursday, and Carson Williams (Western Kentucky) will not play Wednesday as he preps for the NFL.

Some of the notable players enter the transfer portal from more major conferences included Penn State’s Myreon Jones, Izaiah Brockington, Seth Lundy, John Harrar & Jamari Wheeler, Vanderbilt’s Maxwell Evans & DJ Harvey, Javon Greene (George Mason), Justin Brown (South Florida), Zach Harvey, Tari Eason & Mike Saunders (Cincinnati), JP Moorman (Temple), Aljaz Kunc (Washington State), and Jaelen House (Arizona State).

CBB Injuries & Updates from Sun. March 14

On Sunday playing through injury was Keith Williams (Cincinnati), who started after an undisclosed injury kept him out of the second half of Saturday’s game.

Notables remaining out included Kyle Young (Ohio State), Josh Primo (Alabama) & KeShawn Curry (VCU).

In injury updates, Kadary Richmond (Syracuse) is dealing with knee tendinitis but should be full-strength by Friday, RJ Cole (UConn) has a mild concussion and is in protocol, John Fulkerson (Tennessee) had a procedure for his facial injuries and his status is uncertain, Abu Kigab (Boise State) will have surgery for a torn labrum (initial reports were rotator cuff), and Max Rice (Boise State) will need surgery for a broken bone in his foot.

The biggest transfer news of the day was Earl Timberlake (Miami) and Isaih Moore (St John’s) entering the transfer portal.

CBB Injuries & Updates from Sat. March 13

On Saturday newly sitting out were Isaiah Livers (Michigan) with a stress fracture in his foot, John Fulkerson (Tennessee) due to facial injuries he sustained on Friday, Kyle Young (Ohio State) due to a concussion sustained on Friday, Josh Primo (Alabama) with a knee/MCL injury in Friday’s game, and Shereef Mitchell (Creighton) due to taking a shot to the head on Friday.

Playing through injuries were Bryce Williams (Oklahoma State) who was limited with stomach issues on Friday, Damion Baugh (Memphis) who left Friday’s game with an apparent injury, and Jose Alvarado (Georgia Tech) after dealing with a knee injury last game.

Suffering in-game injuries were Keith Williams (Cincinnati) who went to the locker room before halftime with an undisclosed injury, returned to the bench area midway through the second half and appeared to be crying with a towel over his head but did not return to the court, team had no postgame update.

Notables remaining out included Jaylin Williams (Arkansas) and Alex Lomax (Memphis).

In injury updates, Jaylin Williams (Arkansas, covid protocols) will be back for the NCAA tournament.

CBB Injuries & Updates from Fri. March 12

On Friday playing through injuries were Eli Brooks (Michigan), Charles Bassey (Western Kentucky), Joe Wieskamp (Iowa), and James Bouknight (UConn).

Newly sitting out were Jaden Seymour & Trevin Wade (Wichita State) due to covid protocols.

Returning to action included Josaphat Bilau (Wichita State), Aguek Arop (San Diego State), and Mike Saunders & David DeJulius (Cincinnati).

Suffering in-game injuries were Josh Primo (Alabama) who left the game in the second half carried off the court with an apparent knee injury, the team said he would not return, Kyle Young (Ohio State) took an elbow to the head and eventually took himself out of the game early in the second half, was looked at by training staff and did not return in what appeared to be concussion protocol, and John Fulkerson (Tennessee) left the game in the second half after taking two shots to head and the team announced he would not return and in postgame was said to be unlikely for Saturday.

In more in-game injuries, Xavier Pinson (Missouri) took a hard fall landing on his back/tailbone area near the end of the game and did not return, although did walk off on his own, RJ Cole (UConn) hit the floor hard in the middle of the second half, left the game with a cut on his head near his eye and went to the locker room, he will go through concussion protocol, and Damion Baugh (Memphis) went to the locker room after a scramble on the ground near the end of the second half and did not return.
