CFB Injury Updates from Fri-Sat November 27-28

I break down the injury news from this past weekend with notes on each player who may have been dealing with injuries.

A few notes about this list, being on it does not for sure mean a player is “injured”, but rather:

  • They may have missed the game due to a known injury (ok, this does mean they are injured)
  • They may have gone out of the game due to injury and not returned (sometimes with an official announcement from the team)
  • They may have left the game but returned, or at least attempted to return (sometimes these guys end up banged up enough to miss future games)
  • They may have had a vague twitter mention about possibly being injured or leaving a game, so it’s something on my radar

I’ll continue to post any updates I see during the week, those will be added to daily updates as well as the injury database.

If you are aware of a fantasy-relevant injury from this weekend that you don’t see here (or don’t see listed in the database), or think anything shared here is incomplete, please tag me on twitter with a link and let me know, thanks!

CFB Injury Updates from Saturday November 21

I break down the injury news from this past weekend with notes on each player who may have been dealing with injuries.

List of Potential Injury News from Saturday Nov 21 (unless noted):

  • WR Javen Banks, Texas State – in the first half he went to the medical tent after catching a pass, in postgame the team did not yet know the full extent of the injury
  • RB Tank Bigsby, Auburn – went to the medical tent in the first quarter with what may have been a hip injury after landing on his side, was seen riding an exercise bike on the sideline, came back in for a carry but was then done for the day. He was later said to have been ruled out for the game with a lower body injury. On Sunday night he was described as questionable.
  • QB Seth Boomer, Tulsa – came in as a reserve after Zach Smith was hurt, he was hit throwing a pass near the end of the 3rd quarter on Thursday night and was taken off the field on a cart, in postgame his injury was said to appear “pretty significant”
  • QB Max Bortenschlager, FIU – in the third quarter he went to the medical tent but after being evaluated came out without a helmet and did not return
  • RB Rakeem Boyd, Arkansas – did not suit up for the game Saturday for what was speculated to be covid-related reasons
  • RB Christopher Brown, Cal – a surprise scratch announced by the team in pregame, he was reported to have a nagging injury that had made him a gametime decision on pregame radio, so it is not covid-related
  • RB Stephen Carr, USC – reported to have not practiced much last week, and was pulled early from the game after only one carry. On Sunday it was clarified that he took a knee to the back of the head.
  • WR Britain Covey, Utah – reported to have suffered a minor injury in practice last week, warmed up pregame but did not play
  • RB Devyn Ford, Penn State – he played the first drive of the game but did not appear to play again and did not come out for the second half, in postgame he was simply said to have “left with an injury”
  • TE Pat Freiermuth, Penn State – was not dressed in pregame, then in postgame it was shared he will be having season-ending surgery for an injury suffered against Ohio State the previous week
  • WR DeMarcus Harris, Kentucky – left the game in the first half and was reported to be out the rest of the game after taking a helmet to helmet hit on a pass attempt
  • WR JJ Holloman, FIU – after a pass attempt in the 2nd quarter he went to the medical tent and did not appear to return
  • RB Mohamed Ibrahim, Minnesota – in the 4th quarter on Friday night was seen holding his arm/hand on the sideline and did not play in late game series, in postgame he was said to have been banged up and he was held out by team trainers who were thinking long-term
  • WR Javon Ivory, Memphis – in the second quarter he walked slowly to the sideline after laying down on the field injured, in the second half he was on the sideline without pads
  • WR Racey McMath, LSU – in the 3rd quarter he hobbled to the training table after a non-contact injury on a deep route that appeared to reporters to possibly be a hamstring injury
  • QB JaCobian Morgan, Syracuse – in the 3rd quarter on Friday night he took a hit on a sack, went to the medical tent, and was thought to have had a head injury/been in concussion protocol, there was a false report in-game that he had been taken to a hospital
  • WR Skyy Moore, Western Michigan – surprisingly did not play on Wednesday night, after the game was started it was shared he had been banged up and suffered an injury in practice, but no further details
  • QB Eli Peters, Toledo – in the 2nd quarter on Wednesday night he went to the locker room after being hit on a sack, he came out on crutches with ice on his left knee, although he was seen later in the game on the sideline walking around without crutches, which seems hopeful
  • QB Cameron Rising, Utah – was knocked out of the game on a sack in the 2nd quarter with what one report said was a shoulder injury, he was not in pads on the sideline in the second half. Whether it be due to his injury or the play of QB Jake Bentley, the postgame comments were that Bentley looked like the QB going forward.
  • RB Chris Rodriguez, Kentucky – reports came out on Friday night that Kentucky was dealing with Covid issues, and that Rodriguez was among those who would not be able to play.
  • RB Tayvon Ruley, Temple – went down on a hit late in the 2nd quarter and did not appear to be on the sideline in the second half, in postgame he was said to have a shoulder injury that needed further assessment
  • QB Spencer Sanders, Oklahoma State – left in the first quarter and was sitting on the training table without a helmet for a time with what was thought to possibly be concussion protocol and was held out, but then he surprisingly came back into the game in the second half after sitting out quite a while, so who knows what went on there.
  • WR Shi Smith, South Carolina – in the first quarter he was crushed by two players on a passing route, he walked off slowly to the medical tent and then the locker room. He was later in street clothes and then in postgame was said to have been ruled out 5 minutes after the injury, is in concussion protocol, but looked “fine in the locker room”
  • QB Zach Smith, Tulsa – left the game in the 2nd quarter on Thursday night and went to the locker room with an apparent torso/ribs injury, came back out to the sideline in uniform but was said to be unlikely to return and did not
  • RB Markese Stepp, USC – did not dress for the game, and in postgame was shared to have had a pectoral strain and had practiced during the week but wasn’t able to go for the game
  • QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson, UCLA – late in the week reports came out that his status was in question for covid-related reasons. He tweeted out that he did not have covid but ultimately he and a number of other UCLA players were held out due to covid-related reasons, so he likely was in contact tracing
  • RB Sean Tyler, Western Michigan – limped off in the 3rd quarter on Wednesday night, not putting any weight on his right leg after getting tackled awkwardly in a horse-collar type tackle, and did not return. He was later seen on crutches on the sideline.
  • WR Jalen Virgil, App State – he was carted off the field before halftime and did not appear to return to the game
  • QB Shai Werts, Georgia Southern – in the 4th quarter he went to the injury tent after getting tackled on a run. He returned to the game but from highlights I saw did not appear to be in on the last possession as time expired (QB Justin Tomlin was in).
  • QB Tate Whatley, Southern Miss – in the 4th quarter he caught his own batted down pass and appeared to hurt his right shoulder getting hit
  • WR Seth Williams, Auburn – in the 4th quarter after going for a deep ball he appeared to be injured and was checked by trainers. In postgame Williams said it was “a stinger” and “everything is good”.

List of Potential Injury News from Saturday Nov 14 (unless noted):

  • WR Tutu Atwell, Louisville – was a surprise scratch announced by the team in pregame for undisclosed reasons, this initially felt covid-related but after news that Javian Hawkins had opted out you have to wonder what might be next for Atwell. On Monday morning he was stated to be dealing with an injury.
  • RB Mulbah Car, Houston – limped off in the 1st quarter, was looked at and returned, but in the middle of the 2nd quarter was injured again. Came out for the second half in street clothes on the sideline and in postgame he was said to have tweaked an ankle injury.
  • WR KeSean Carter, Texas Tech – in the 4th quarter he was tackled on a reception, he walked off with trainers with a possible arm/shoulder injury. He was out earlier this season with an elbow injury, so it could be related, but that is speculation.
  • QB Henry Colombi, Texas Tech – he gave way to QB Alan Bowman and in postgame was said to have banged up his left elbow, but postgame quotes were “he’s a go” and that he could have gone back into the game.
  • RB Trestan Ebner, Baylor – only had one carry and in postgame was said to have experienced some muscle tightness in pregame and tried to go but was unable to
  • WR Emeka Emezie, NC State – in the 3rd quarter he was injured on a pass play and went to the locker room, was said to be questionable to return. The postgame comment was that he was “fine”.
  • RB C’Bo Flemister, Notre Dame – went down after a run in the 4th quarter, trainers appeared to be looking at his left leg. In postgame it was said that “it doesn’t appear to be serious”.
  • WR Danny Gray, SMU – on a pass attempt in the 4th quarter he went down and was grabbing at his wrist, which may be the same issue that caused him to miss time earlier this season
  • WR Donavon Greene, Wake Forest – in the fourth quarter it was noticed he was not on the sideline and in postgame the coach simply replied “he got injured”
  • TE Chase Hancock, Georgia Southern – injured early in the 3rd quarter and had to be carted off
  • RB Javian Hawkins, Louisville – was a surprise scratch announced by the team in pregame for undisclosed reasons, this initially felt covid-related but on Monday morning he announced he was opting out of the season to prepare for the NFL draft
  • RB Keyon Henry-Brooks, Vanderbilt – left the game in the second half as he had to be carted off the field. In game broadcast said he was going to get x-rays on his ribs. The team did not have a postgame update but did say that RB Ja’Veon Marlow would return from suspension next week.
  • WR Tavares Kelly, Virginia – shaken up on a kickoff return in the 3rd quarter and was down on the ground a while, appeared to take a shot to the head
  • QB Katravis Marsh, South Florida – came in the game late in relief and got hit as he tried to throw leading to a turnover and defensive TD. He didn’t return and in postgame the team did not have an update when asked.
  • RB Sincere McCormick, UTSA – was unavailable due to the birth of his daughter
  • RB Marcus McElroy, Colorado State – left the game Thursday night in the first quarter holding his left shoulder/collarbone area after getting tackled on a carry and did not return
  • RB Dedrick Mills, Nebraska – only had 3 carries, in postgame was said to be “nicked up, he will be fine”
  • TE James Mitchell, Virginia Tech – in the 2nd quarter he went down after a pass interference call and was hobbled and looked at by trainers and did not appear to return. He had just worked his way back from an injury to play in this game, unclear if this is related.
  • WR Mycah Pittman, Oregon – was not seen in pregame and was a surprise late scratch. His father actually tweeted that Mycah was 100% healthy and it wasn’t until the afternoon of gameday that he was ruled out. In postgame the coach comment was “Those guys did nothing wrong. They were not available tonight.”
  • TE Kyle Pitts, Florida – early in the day was said to be out Saturday night and then in postgame it was shared he had surgery on his nose after taking a hit to the head last week and would be out 11/21 weekend as well.
  • TE Tony Poljan, Virginia – in the first half he was hit near the goal line and fumbled, then looked at by trainers, I do not believe he returned
  • WR Kendric Pryor, Wisconsin – was ruled out in the second half by the team with an upper body injury
  • TE Brady Russell, Colorado – in the first quarter he was helped off the field with a lower leg/foot injury. He went to the medical tent and was seen with his right shoe off. He appeared to get it taped but was later seen without a helmet as he did not return.
  • QB Anthony Russo, Temple – did not play due to covid protocols and in postgame it was shared that the team knew as early as Monday that he would be out. Had he not been in covid protocol the team said he would have been cleared to play from his previous shoulder injury.
  • RB Shaki Seymour, Toledo – on Wednesday night he did not play in the second half and was seen on the sideline without a helmet, in postgame was said to be “a little banged up”. On Sunday it was reported by the team that Seymour’s mother passed away several days ago and that he was dealing with that which is why he didn’t play in the second half, so the “banged up” comment sounds like the coach was just looking out for Seymour’s privacy.
  • QB Zac Thomas, App State – in the fourth quarter he took a late hit out of bounds and had to be back-boarded and carted off where he taken by ambulance to the hospital. The team later shared he had feeling in all extremities and had been released. He tweeted last night “I am doing good and ready to get back with the team.”
  • QB Tyler Vitt, Texas State – left the game in the 2nd quarter and was seen with his left hand heavily wrapped. He was later seen in street clothes after a reported possible dislocation of his hand/wrist.
  • WR De’Vion Warren, Arkansas – injured in 4th quarter, was down on the field with helmet off in pain, limped off field and did not return
  • RB Kyren Williams, Notre Dame – near the end of the first half he landed on his shoulder coming out of the backfield on a pass route and was looked at by trainers on the sideline. In postgame it was said that he was “banged up” but could have returned.

  • QB Trad Beatty, Temple – injured on a sack late in the 2nd quarter, he came back out for the second half in street clothes and in postgame was simply said to be “out”
  • QB Stetson Bennett, Georgia – went to the locker room in the first quarter but returned to action, was eventually replaced in the second half with what was described in postgame as an AC shoulder sprain

  • QB Jalon Daniels, Kansas – in the 4th quarter got knocked out of the game on a sack with a defender landing on his leg (after being sacked nine times). He was helped off the field putting no weight on his left side and in postgame Les Miles said Daniels told him “it was feeling better”.

  • QB Brett Gabbert, Miami (OH) – left the game in the 2nd quarter Wednesday night on a helmet to helmet hit, was helped off the field and the team announced mid-game he would not return. The backup QB AJ Mayer said Gabbert was alert at halftime and not in the “dark room”, but the team did not have an immediate postgame update. • QB Jack Sears, Boise State – starting in place of Hank Bachmeier on Friday night, he took what looked like a helmet to helmet hit on a QB run and went to the medical tent and locker room, he returned to the sideline but was not wearing his helmet and did not return to the game (Boise doesn’t offer in-game injury updates but concussion protocol seems likely)
  • RB Trey Sermon, Ohio State – left after a long run in the 4th quarter after his head appeared to hit the turf, he walked off and went to the injury tent. On Sunday a reporter source said that Sermon was fine and shouldn’t miss any time.

CFB Injury Updates from Saturday October 31

I break down the injury news from this past weekend with notes on each player who may have been dealing with injuries.

A few notes about this list, being on it does not for sure mean a player is “injured”, but rather:

  • They may have missed the game due to a known injury (ok, this does mean they are injured)

List of Potential Injury News from Saturday Oct. 31 (alphabetical by last name):

  • QB Jack Abraham, Southern Miss – after missing a game was back in action this week but left in the 2nd quarter after taking a hard hit at the end of a QB run and fumbling, he was seen sitting on the bench with a towel over his head and went to the locker room and did not return to the game. In postgame a coach quote was “I saw him after, and I think he is going to be fine.”
  • RB Tyler Allgeier, BYU – lost his helmet on a tackle in the first half, went to the medical tent and missed some time but eventually returned to action
  • QB Brennan Armstrong, Virginia – late in the fourth quarter he limped off the field with help after taking a hit on a QB run with a possible left leg injury, did not return. In postgame he was pictured leading locker room celebrations, so possibly a good sign.
  • QB Hank Bachmeier, Boise State – after not being seen warming up pregame it was shared that he had not traveled with the team and Jack Sears would start, there is speculation it could be covid-related but the team didn’t share further updates
  • QB KJ Costello, Mississippi State – took what appeared to be a knee to the helmet in the 2nd quarter and went to the locker room and did not return to the game, in postgame he was described as “still being checked out”
  • WR Sam Crawford, Tulsa – left the game in the 2nd quarter and went to the locker room, I don’t believe he returned (Friday)

  • TE Briley Moore, Kansas State – injured in the 2nd quarter, the team shared that his back locked up and they couldn’t get it loosened up, did not sound serious to a reporter
  • QB Brandon Peters, Illinois – there were some rumors of covid issues at the end of the week at Illinois and on Saturday morning the team revealed that Peters had tested positive and would be out 21 days in covid protocols
  • WR Alec Pierce, Cincinnati – left in the 2nd quarter with a possible left shoulder injury, went to the medical tent and locker room, was ruled out and seen with his arm in a sling on the sideline
  • QB Matt Robinson, Illinois – was a surprise starter with Brandon Peters out, but was injured in the first half with what may be a right ankle injury, he went to the locker room and was ruled out for the second half

  • WR Tyquan Thornton, Baylor – there was a report that he was “dinged up” on a kickoff return and would be out the rest of the game
  • QB Gunnar Watson, Troy – after suffering an injury to his ribs area last weekend there was little comment from the team, but a reporter near the end of the week said a source said Watson was not expected to play which proved correct, Jacob Free had a big game as his replacement
  • WR Marlon Williams, UCF – in the first half he was down in the end zone after a pass but was able to walk off, he did miss some time but then returned to action

CFB Injury Updates from Saturday October 24

List of Potential Injury News from Saturday Oct. 24 (alphabetical by last name):

  • QB Jack Abraham, Southern Miss – did not travel with the team to Liberty for undisclosed reasons. In postgame it was shared that the team knew early in the week he would be out, giving backup QB Tate Whatley practice reps.
  • WR Kevin Austin, Notre Dame – official team pregame report shared he was out, and soon thereafter came the news that he had broken his previously injured foot in practice on Thursday and would be out for the season
  • RB Noah Cain, Penn State – on the first drive of the game he limped off, went to the locker room and did not return to action
  • QB Sean Chambers, Wyoming – left the game being carted off in the first half, mid-game it was shared he potentially had a broken fibula which would likely be season-ending

  • RB King Doerue, Purdue – did not play Saturday as he reportedly shared on snapchat that he had a strained hamstring
  • RB Travis Etienne, Clemson – jogged off the field early in the first half then returned, left again in the 3rd quarter and went to the locker room and again returned. In postgame he shared that he got an IV for cramps after “only having Frosted Flakes for breakfast”.
  • QB Cade Fortin, South Florida – seen on the sideline with no pads in the 3rd quarter after being hit on a QB run, had his right arm in a sling
  • WR Danny Gray, SMU – in the 4th quarter he went to the locker room with what looked like a right hand/wrist injury, he came back to the sideline as it looked like trainers were seeing if they could get his hand/glove comfortable with a possible wrap (?)
  • WR Taj Harris, Syracuse – not an injury, but did not travel with the team with what is believed to be disciplinary measures after being seen making an obscene gesture, throwing his helmet, and generally acting a fool on the sideline the previous weekend
  • WR Braden Lenzy, Notre Dame – appeared to re-injure his hamstring in the 4th quarter, the team is hoping it is just an issue with scar tissue from his original hamstring injury
  • WR Miles Marshall, Indiana – in the 4th quarter took a helmet to helmet hit, after being down on the field he was taken to the locker room
  • QB Grayson McCall, Coastal Carolina – was a late scratch in pregame with what the team described as an upper body injury, was said he’d been banged up and wasn’t comfortable in pregame warmups
  • RB Larry McCammon, Florida Atlantic – took a shot from a helmet to his right leg, was carted to the locker room, was seen in the second half on the sideline with crutches and a boot on his ankle. He is scheduled to get an MRI with the team hoping it is a bad ankle sprain.
  • WR Tre Mosley, Michigan State – hobbled off the field after getting injured in the 3rd quarter, I don’t believe he returned

  • WR AT Perry, Wake Forest – left the game with an apparent injury, was seen working on the sideline with a trainer (unclear if he returned)

  • RB Shaun Peterson, Florida International – reports came out Saturday (in a since deleted reporter tweet) that he had potentially torn his ACL in Friday night’s game. Curious that the tweet was deleted, so something to monitor.
  • RB Kadin Remsberg, Air Force – left the game on the first drive as he was shaken up, and did not return
  • RB Brian Robinson, Alabama – in postgame it was shared that he was “a little nicked up” but that it was nothing serious

  • WR Jaylen Waddle, Alabama – broke his ankle on the opening kickoff return and was taken to the hospital, was shared he has a fracture and will need surgery taking him out for the season
  • QB Gunnar Watson, Troy – took a shot after throwing a TD pass in the first half, was later ruled out for the rest of the game – in postgame it was shared to be an upper body injury and there was not yet a timetable
  • QB Shai Werts, Georgia Southern – went to the locker room in the 3rd quarter with what the team shared was cramping, was able to return
  • RB Xavier White, Texas Tech – seen on the sideline being tended to on the trainer’s table (at the same time RB SaRodorick Thompson was), was limited to 6 carries even with Thompson out, as deep reserve Tahj Brooks got time

CFB Injury Updates from Saturday October 17

I break down the injury news from this past weekend with notes on each player who may have been dealing with injuries. I also sometimes dig into players who may have been out for non-injury reasons as well.

List of Potential Injury News from Saturday Oct. 17 (alphabetical by last name):

  • QB Holton Ahlers, East Carolina – did not play for covid-related reasons. Interestingly yesterday a family member of his angrily shared on social media that Ahlers was only allowed to have one test after testing positive (unlike say Nick Saban who got 3). Said that all his teammates around him were negative and Ahlers went and got another test on his own which was negative insinuating the original test was a false positive. Take that for what it’s worth.
  • RB Otis Anderson, UCF – in the 2nd quarter he was apparently injured, went to the locker room with pads off, but was able to return to action in the 2nd half
  • RB Christian Beal-Smith, Wake Forest – there were reports that he was taken to the locker room in the 3rd quarter, unclear if he returned to the game but the play by play looks like all RB Kenneth Walker late in the game
  • WR Damonte Coxie, Memphis – not an injury, but after rumors swirled near the end of the week Coxie did not play Saturday. In postgame the team shared that he is not part of the program right now, insinuating perhaps either an opt out or possibly a personal leave of absence.
  • RB Johnny Ford, South Florida – went down late in the 4th quarter with a possible ankle injury. The team had no official update postgame, although Coach Jeff Scott said he saw Ford walking in the locker room, which seems positive.
  • RB Kylin Hill, Mississippi State – not an injury, but the pregame buzz about his availability was confirmed as Hill did not play Saturday. The reports were that he did not play due to a suspension for behavioral reasons. In postgame Mike Leach said Hill’s future availability was unclear.
  • TE Brevin Jordan, Miami – a week ago suffered an apparent right shoulder injury and was described as questionable midweek, was on the sideline not suited up on Saturday
  • QB Devin Leary, NC State – he was carted off with an air cast and it was revealed Sunday morning that he had successful surgery for a broken fibula and will be out 4-8 weeks.
  • WR Braden Lenzy, Notre Dame – in postgame it was shared that he had a soft tissue injury which limited his availability
  • RB Joshua Mack, Liberty – after not getting any first half action it was revealed at halftime that he had been dealing with an illness (stomach bug) the past couple days and was not expected to play in the second half.
  • QB Dalen Morris, Navy – in the 3rd quarter he was “speared” on a hit according to one reporter, leading him to be officially shared by the team to be out for the rest of the game with an upper body injury.
  • QB Lowell Narcisse, UTSA – In the 4th quarter he was carted off with an air cast on his left leg and taken to the hospital. In postgame the coach quote was “it doesn’t look good”.
  • RB Trent Pennix, NC State – there were numerous reports of him heading to the locker room in the first half, but I didn’t see any additional updates
  • QB Taisun Phommachanh, Clemson – the reserve QB broke a bone in his left hand getting mop-up duty during the blowout of Georgia Tech. The team shared an update Sunday that he had surgery to have screws inserted and was described as day to day.
  • QB Kenny Pickett, Pitt – he did not travel for the Miami game with an ankle injury. In postgame Pat Narduzzi essentially admitted to giving misleading quotes about Pickett so as to not help the opponent. He said he knew early in the week Pickett would not play but wouldn’t comment on whether he had a procedure on his ankle. Said “there’s a chance” Pickett could play next week, but if not next week then hopefully would return after the bye week.
  • WR Gunner Romney, BYU – In the second half of Friday night’s game Romney was dealing with a hamstring issue which took him to the medical tent and sidelined him the rest of the game.
  • WR TJ Simmons, West Virginia – Early in the first half Simmons took a big hit and was seen not in pads on the sideline for the rest of the game with what was thought to possibly be concussion symptoms.
  • RB Isaiah Spiller, Texas A&M – in postgame it was shared that he was nicked up late in the game but could have returned if needed
  • QB Jordan Travis, Florida State – anyone watching the game could see that Travis seemed to be dealing with and playing through a possible left arm/shoulder injury. In postgame the coach quote was just that he was a “warrior”.
  • WR Tre Turner, Virginia Tech – in the 3rd quarter he was officially ruled out for the rest of the game as he was on the sideline without his helmet, the team had no postgame update when asked

List of Potential Injury News from Saturday Oct. 10 (alphabetical by last name):

  • QB Brennan Armstrong, Virginia – left the game in the first half after taking a hit that was ruled to be targeting, did not return. There was no postgame update when asked.
  • RB Rakeem Boyd, Arkansas – did not travel to the game after injury last weekend
  • QB Chase Brice, Duke – he took a big hit then missed some time (I believe there was erroneous reporting he was being benched), but returned to action.
  • WR Treylon Burks, Arkansas – dressed but did not play, no updates
  • RB Mulbah Car, Houston – reported to have a sprained ankle, but is expected to be ok (Thursday)
  • WR KeSean Carter, Texas Tech – was announced in pregame to be out in what was later shared to be an ankle injury
  • WR Caleb Chapman, Texas A&M – had a huge game, but had an apparent lower body injury near the end of the game, team did not have a postgame update but Chapman posted Sunday afternoon “without the lows the highs mean nothing” and there is some buzz that it may be serious
  • RB James Cook, Georgia – after suffering an arm injury last game he appeared limited in warmups and did not play
  • QB Tommy DeVito, Syracuse – left the game with an injury, came back out to the field on crutches with a boot, a postgame quote from the coach said things didn’t look good, and later reporter sources were saying he was believed to be out for the season
  • QB Max Duggan, TCU – went to the locker room midgame but returned to action
  • TE Arik Gilbert, LSU – appeared to have missed some time in the second half with a possible shoulder issue but returned in the 4th quarter
  • QB Frank Harris, UTSA – after being a gametime decision got the start, but had another apparent leg injury in the first half and did not return as he was replaced by Lowell Narcisse. Injury didn’t appear serious but some coach quotes basically made it sound like he is acknowledged to be injury-prone and they don’t want to play him at less than 100%.
  • RB Roschon Johnson, Texas – came out for the second half not in pads, and in postgame was revealed to have re-aggravated a shoulder injury
  • QB Jemel Jones, Army – started in place of an injured Christian Anderson, but appeared to suffer an injury in the 4th quarter and was replaced
  • TE Brevin Jordan, Miami – missed time late in the game with a shoulder injury and went to the locker room. In postgame he was interviewed and said he felt fine and expected to play next week.
  • RB Jawhar Jordan, Syracuse – was revealed in pregame to be out and then in postgame it was said he would be out for a while
  • RB Joshua Mack, Liberty – not an injury, but in postgame it was shared that he had gotten limited time it what sounded like a disciplinary measure but should be good going forward
  • RB Seth McGowan, Oklahoma – he personally tweeted out a broken heart emoji on Friday night after there had been some unconfirmed chatter about his availability, then on Saturday morning it was confirmed that he would be out due to concussion protocol
  • WR Tarique Milton, Iowa State – did not play as he was seen in pregame with his arm in a sling
  • WR Joseph Ngata, Clemson – warmed up but seen during the game without his helmet. The sentiment here with his abdominal strain seems to be that the team doesn’t want to play him at less than 100% (similar to a hamstring injury)
  • QB Kenny Pickett, Pitt – left the game limping, went to the medical tent and missed some time (replaced by Joey Yellen), returned to finish the game
  • TE Kyle Pitts, Florida – there was a mid-game report that he was dealing with a left foot injury
  • QB Spencer Rattler, Oklahoma – left the game, had his arm briefly looked at but was essentially benched for a while before returning to action.
  • WR Jake Smith, Texas – a few minutes after the game started there was word that he might not play, then the team said he was available mid-game, then in post-game it was revealed he had aggravated a hamstring injury in pre-game
  • QB Skylar Thompson, Kansas State – did not travel to game after injury last weekend, the team said they’d likely have further updates on Monday (I had previously had a note that perhaps he didn’t travel to let him heal, that was clearly incorrect as on Monday he was shared to be out for the season having had surgery)
  • QB Jordan Travis, Florida State – it was shared in postgame that he was having a hand issue and was struggling to grip the ball and would get the hand looked at, he was interviewed postgame and said his hand was fine

  • RB Bentavious Thompson, UCF – was seen with no pads on the sideline late in the game (similar to Greg McCrae)
  • QB Skylar Thompson, Kansas State – left after a late hit and didn’t return. In the second half he was out of uniform with a sling on his right arm. No postgame update.

List of Potential Injury News from Saturday Sept. 26 (alphabetical by last name):

  • RB Otis Anderson, UCF – he was not in pads on the sideline during the second-half for undisclosed reasons, rushed for 7/22 yesterday
  • WR Tarik Black, Texas – may have gotten “dinged up on a hit” (from a postgame article)
  • RB Raheem Blackshear, Virginia Tech – was limping in the 3rd quarter and headed to the trainer’s tent (from the play by play it doesn’t appear he returned)
  • QB Charlie Brewer, Baylor – missed some time with a bruised quad but returned
  • WR Ahmarean Brown, Georgia Tech – appeared to hit his head hard on the turf and was shaken up, unclear if returned
  • QB Braxton Burmeister, Virginia Tech – left the game with hand cramps, later returned to action

  • RB AJ Davis, Pitt – left in the first half after a hard hit to the head/shoulder, did not return
  • QB Frank Harris, UTSA (Friday) – looked like his leg got rolled up at the end of the first half, came out of halftime not in pads but seemed to be walking around the sideline comfortably, had an MRI scheduled Saturday – knee sprain, described as gametime decision in a Sunday night update (Pete Thamel)
  • QB Hendon Hooker, Virginia Tech – did not play, there had been some rumors throughout the week about his availability, it sounds like essentially he had not been practicing recently for covid-related reasons
  • WR Tim Jones, Southern Miss – suffered a lower-body soft-tissue injury last weekend (9-19) and there was very little commentary from the team this week, he sat out yesterday
  • TE Brevin Jordan, Miami – left the game for the locker room but returned, after the game he was said to be “fine”
  • QB Thomas MacVittie, Kansas – at the start of the week was said to be expected back but he did not play. In postgame the comments were that he was not healthy enough to play yet, which likely led to the Jalon Daniels start but is unclear what that may mean for Kansas at QB when he is healthy
  • WR Tarique Milton, Iowa State – did not play with a lower body injury
  • WR Tre Nixon, UCF – did not play after injury last week, still no updates from team
  • WR Dalton Rigdon, Texas Tech – he was “carted up to the Tech football building. Holding the area of the ribs on his left side” – via Don Williams

  • WR Stephon Robinson, Kansas – was seen grabbing at his leg early in the game, and later in the game got sandwiched in a collision and was shaken up, unclear if returned
  • QB Spencer Sanders, Oklahoma State – dressed and active in pregame after ankle injury last game but did not play, my gut is this was just gamesmanship and the plan was for him to sit based on some pregame reports that correctly predicted that Shane Illingworth would start.
  • RB Chris Smith, Louisiana – limped off and went to the locker room in the first half, team announced he was officially questionable to return, and he did not come back. In postgame it was said to be an ankle, but the extent wasn’t known.
  • RB Tyjae Spears, Tulane – had a strong first half (8/50-2) but left with a leg injury in the first half, no postgame update from the team but there did seem to be some concern
  • QB Jordan Travis, Florida State – limped out of the locker room at halftime and was seen with a wrap on his right knee trying to run on the sideline
  • QB Tyler Vitt, Texas State – did not travel due to Covid-protocols, (it’s just bizarre how he and Brady McBride seem to alternate for Covid-related reasons)
  • TE Brayden Willis, Oklahoma – went down with a possible injury in the fourth quarter, haven’t seen any postgame updates
  • QB Malik Willis, Liberty – left the game, was wearing a sling on his left arm/shoulder on the sideline late in the game – later tweeted out that he was “all good” for whatever that is worth
