CBB Injuries & Updates – Thur. December 10

On Thursday night Alonzo Verge suited up for Arizona State after missing games for covid reasons, but Marcus Bagley did not dress. Brandon Johnson sat out for Minnesota (ankle) and was described as day to day. Keshad Johnson was one of three San Diego State players to not travel due to contact tracing.

In notable injury updates Landers Nolley & Damion Baugh should be back for Memphis Saturday, Rasheem Dunn has cleared concussion protocol and is questionable for St John’s on Friday, and Tre Jackson remains out for Iowa State (knee).

CBB Injuries & Updates – Wed. December 9

On Wednesday some players returning to action after missing time were Aljami Durham (Indiana), Jalen Carey (Rhode Island), Chuck O’Bannon (TCU), PJ Hall (Clemson), Gabe Watson (Tulane) & Johnny Juzang (UCLA).

Some players unexpectedly not in action were Jermaine Harris (Rhode Island) who did not travel with the team due to illness, Francisco Farabello (TCU) for covid reasons, PJ Fuller (TCU) with an ankle injury, Marcus Shaver (Boise State) who was thought to be probable but was out with a foot injury, & Aljaz Kunc (Washington State) with a foot injury.

Suffering injuries on Wednesday night were Michigan’s Austin Davis who left with what appeared to be a non-contact lower right leg injury, Texas Tech’s Tyreek Smith who went to the locker room in the first half (undisclosed) and did not play in the second half, and Texas’ Brock Cunningham suffered a chest contusion that kept him from playing in the second half.

Looking forward, Alonzo Verge is expected to play for Arizona State Thursday, but Marcus Bagley sounds doubtful, and Pavlo Dziuba is away from the team right now (sounds covid-related).

CBB Injuries & Updates – Tues. December 8

On Tuesday Brandon Johnson (Minnesota) left the game with an ankle injury at the end of overtime, Landers Nolley (Memphis) took a hard fall in the first half, went to the locker room, returned to action, but eventually was seen with his right hand heavily wrapped and did not return to the game. Kobe Clark (Georgetown) suffered an ankle injury in the first half.

Colorado saw Keeshawn Barthelemy, D’Shawn Schwartz & Tristan da Silva in action after missing games (covid-related) and Musa Jallow (Ohio State) returned to action as well. Eric Hunter (Purdue) made his season debut off the bench after missing time with a leg injury.

Garrison Brooks (UNC) was able to start after a sprained ankle, but Chris Lykes (Miami) was not able to go. Kaosi Ezeagu (Kansas State) sat out with a knee injury, while Damion Baugh (Memphis) sat out with back issues.

In some injury news for Wednesday games, PJ Hall (Clemson) and Johnny Juzang (UCLA) are hopeful, Terrence Shannon (Texas Tech) and Aljami Durham (Indiana) are gametime decisions, but Tony Miller (Washington State) and Joey Brunk (Indiana) are not expected to play.

CBB Injuries & Updates – Mon. December 7

In Monday injury updates Rutgers’ Geo Baker was said to be hopeful to be back soon but has not yet practiced, which would seem to make him unlikely to play Tuesday. It was confirmed that UNC’s Garrison Brooks has a sprained ankle that has limited him in practice since the injury in the Texas game. Miami’s Chris Lykes saw a doctor but the team does not yet have an update on his ankle injury. Colorado’s D’Shawn Schwartz has been sidelined for covid-related reasons but is expected to be available on Tuesday.

Purdue’s Eric Hunter has been practicing and is expected to play Tuesday, but Kentucky’s Keion Brooks was said to still be weeks away from returning.

There were just a handful of major conference teams in action on Monday and no significant status updates that I saw – Oregon’s LJ Figueroa had a double-double (12 points-10 rebounds) in just his second game since gaining eligibility, and Zane Meeks & Tre Coleman got their first starts of the season for Nevada.

  • Joey Brunk, Indiana – sounds like his back injury may keep him from being able to play on Wednesday

CBB Injuries & Updates – Sun. December 6

On Sunday Joshua Langford (Michigan State) returned to action after sitting out last game to rest his knee, and Xavier had Adam Kunkel & Colby Jones play meaningful minutes in their season debuts. Jermaine Samuels (Villanova) started after being a gametime decision with a finger injury, and Charles Manning (LSU) saw his first action of the season.

Texas Tech’s Terrence Shannon left the game in the second half not putting weight on his left leg, but in postgame it was said that the X-rays looked good. Chuck O’Bannon (TCU) and Nikola Djogo (Notre Dame) did not play Sunday due to ankle injuries.

CBB Injuries & Updates – Sat. December 5

Saturday was a somewhat quiet day after some high-profile games like Gonzaga-Baylor and NC State-UConn were postponed. Hasahn French (St Louis) and Ira Lee (Arizona) made their season debuts after concussions, but Marcus Sasser (Houston) sat out due to a sprained ankle.

In status updates, Marcus Bagley (Arizona State) has no Achilles damage and hopes to be back soon, CJ Wilcher and Colby Jones (Xavier) and Alonzo Verge (Arizona State) have all been cleared after dealing with covid protocols. Adam Kunkel (Xavier) received a waiver for eligibility and may make his debut on Sunday.

CBB Injuries & Updates – Fri. December 4

Friday saw Washington’s Nahziah Carter announce (in a since deleted tweet) he was leaving school to pursue a pro career, after not having played yet this season due to suspension. Hakim Hart got his first start for Maryland and scored 33 points after only scoring 28 points all of last season. Making their season debuts after missing early season games were Iverson Molinar (Miss State) and Emmanuel Akot (Boise State).

In injury news, Joshua Langford (Michigan State) did not play Friday as he rested a sore knee, Marcus Shaver (Boise State) left the game with what was revealed to be a nagging foot injury, and Chris Lykes (Miami) scored 20 points before leaving the game with an ankle injury. Jermaine Samuels (Villanova) is questionable for Sunday with a finger sprain, KeShawn Curry (VCU) will miss some time as he rehabs a shoulder injury, and Tony Johnson (UCF) is out indefinitely after having surgery for a lower body injury.

CBB Injuries & Updates – Thur. December 3

Thursday saw the season debuts of Jalen Hill (UCLA), Jalen Cone (Virginia Tech), Jaedon LeDee (TCU) and Jack Nunge (Iowa) after they all missed early games. Buddy Boeheim did not play for Syracuse due to covid contact-tracing. Cartier Diarra did not suit up for Virginia Tech (missed covid test), and Ethan Anderson was not dressed for USC (back injury). Marcus Bagley (Arizona State) left the game late in the second half with an apparent calf injury.

In injury updates, Hasahn French (St Louis) is back from concussion protocol and ready to play Saturday, while Emmanuel Akot is expected to play for Boise State tomorrow. At Purdue Eric Hunter has begun limited practice drills as he begins to return from a leg injury.

In eligibility news, James Karnik (Boston College) and LJ Figueroa (Oregon) got waivers for immediate eligibility.

Wednesday night saw several in-game injuries, including Gonzaga’s Jalen Suggs, who left in the first half with a left ankle sprain but returned to action in the second half, and VCU’s KeShawn Curry suffered a shoulder injury and did not return. Garrison Brooks, UNC (ankle) and Sean McNeil, West Virginia (head) also both left the floor with injuries for a time but returned to action.

In injury updates, Will Richardson (Oregon) will be out six weeks after having surgery on his left thumb. Jalen Cone (Virginia Tech) is expected to play Thursday after missing time with a foot injury. Seth Towns (Ohio State) and Al Durham (Indiana) both warmed up but did not play, which would appear hopeful for both to play soon.

Jalen Carey (Rhode Island) did not play after right leg issues lingering from the last game were too much in the shoot-around and PJ Hall (Clemson) was out with a concussion. Lastly, Jarren McAllister (VCU) is out for the season with a torn ACL.

CBB Injuries & Updates – Tues. December 1

On Tuesday Matt Haarms (BYU) moved into the starting lineup as did Michigan State’s Rocket Watts, while Kihei Clark (Virginia) surprisingly came off the bench rather than starting. Denzel Mahoney (Creighton) started after missing the opener and had 17 points in 22 minutes.

In some injury updates, Hasahn French (St Louis) practiced full-contact on Tuesday as he returns from concussion protocol and Akok Akok (UConn) was cleared to participate in 5 on 5 practice as he returns from an Achilles injury. Aljami Durham (Indiana) was injured in the Tuesday game and the immediate postgame response was he was likely doubtful for Wednesday. Marcus Garrett (Kansas) sounded like he had illness/covid-type symptoms leading up to the game but tested negative and played against Kentucky.
