CBB Player Updates – Week of Nov. 9-15

(Post continually updated throughout the week)

This week Eric Hunter (Purdue) was announced to be out 6-8 weeks after a scrimmage injury, and Charles Minlend (Louisville) will be out around 6 weeks with a sprained MCL. In more positive news, Both Gach is eligible at Minnesota as is Erik Stevenson at Washington, and Samuell Williamson (Louisville) returned to practice this week, while Bryce Aiken (Seton Hall) was cleared to practice.

  • Bryce Aiken, Seton Hall – cleared to practice (knee)
  • Bryan Antoine, Villanova – right shoulder injury, may be out a while
  • Akol Arop, Nebraska – out for season after knee surgery
  • N’Faly Dante, Oregon – ready to go after dealing with knee issues
  • Emmanuel Dowuona, Purdue – still not practicing (breathing issues)
  • Jase Febres, Texas – not yet medically cleared
  • Both Gach, Minnesota – eligible after transfer for Utah
  • Anthony Harris, UNC – not yet fully medically cleared (knee)
  • AJ Hoggard, Michigan State – has been out due to meniscus surgery but expected to be ready for the start of the season
  • Eric Hunter, Purdue – left scrimmage with injury, has fractured tibia, out 6-8 weeks
  • Luke Kasubke, Kansas State – hopeful to be ready in December as recovers from foot injury
  • Jefferson Koulibaly, Washington State – out for season with arm injury
  • Carlton Linguard, Kansas State – was out with back injury but getting back to action
  • Noah Locke, Florida – not yet fully cleared for all activities after hip surgery
  • Issac McBride, Vanderbilt – eligible after transfer from Kansas
  • Charles Minlend, Louisville – out 6 weeks with sprained MCL
  • Ethan Morton, Purdue – mono, may return in a week
  • Erik Stevenson, Washington – eligible after transfer from Wichita State
  • Anthony Walker, Miami – out around two more weeks, knee
  • Jae’Lyn Withers, Louisville – minor ankle tweak, should return soon

CBB Player Updates – Week of Nov. 2-8

This week Robert Allen (Ole Miss), Jimmy Sotos (Ohio State), & Brendan Medley-Bacon (VCU) were ruled eligible to play this season after transfers. Ohio State’s Abel Porter will be out for the season with a medical condition and Daniel Batcho (Arizona) is out indefinitely with knee surgery. Samuell Williamson (Louisville) has not been practicing due to a knee injury. Creighton lost two players for the season with torn ACLs – Rati Andronikashvili and Modestas Kancleris.

CBB Player Updates – Week of Oct 26- Nov 1

Jairus Hamilton (Maryland) had his waiver for eligibility approved as did Mac McClung (Texas Tech) and Umoja Gibson (Oklahoma), while Nahziah Carter (Washington) remains suspended. Washington is also still waiting on waivers for Cole Bajema and Erik Stevenson. In injury news Kentucky’s Keion Brooks will be out another couple weeks with a leg injury.

CBB Player Updates – Week of Oct 19-25

(Post continually updated throughout the week)

The biggest player injury news this week was Nick Sherod of Richmond being announced out for the season with an ACL tear. Kentucky’s Olivier Sarr and South Alabama’s Michael Flowers were granted immediate eligibility.

In team news Marquette shut down all activities for 14 days for covid-related reasons on October 21, may resume November 4th. Toledo had 6 players test positive for covid as well.

  • Paul Atkinson, Yale – plans to graduate and transfer following the season
  • Dahmir Bishop, St Joe’s – eligible after transfer from Xavier
  • Keion Brooks, Kentucky – has been limited in practice, thought to be minor
  • Harrison Curry, Siena – eligible after transfer from Detroit
  • Chris Doherty, Northeastern – eligible after transfer from Notre Dame
  • Michael Flowers, South Alabama – eligible after transfer from Western Michigan (and some drama after his initial waiver request was denied)

CBB Player Updates – Week of Oct 12-18

Practices begin this Wednesday October 14, so I anticipate getting many more injury updates from teams this week. Waivers for eligibility also continue to get approved. As the volume of updates increase I will discern when to move from doing a weekly post to multiple posts per week. The biggest news so far this week has likely been UCF’s Collin Smith announcing he would opt out of the season.

  • Akok Akok, UConn – working out as progressing in Achilles recovery
  • Jimmy Bell, St Louis – out another 2-3 weeks with a sore foot
  • Benjamin Bosmans-Verdonk, Illinois – foot issue flared back up, back in a boot
  • Naz Carter, Washington – suspended from all team activities for violating student code of conduct
  • Dwayne Cohill, Dayton – ACL tear, out for season
  • Courtese Cooper, Southern Utah – eligible after transfer from LSU
  • Eric Curry, Minnesota – not yet fully medically cleared but making good progress
  • Zack Dawson, South Florida – opts out of season
  • Silvio De Sousa, Kansas – opts out of season, leaving the program

As the season gets closer to practices starting next week on October 14 (official date), we are beginning to get more injury updates from teams as well as waivers for eligibility that continue to get approved.

  • Lorne Bowman, Wisconsin – taking personal leave of absence from team

  • Chaundee Brown, Michigan – school will submit waiver request for the Wake Forest transfer “very soon”
  • Caleb Christopher, Arizona State – out 6-8 weeks after thumb surgery
  • Christian David, Butler – not yet cleared after knee injury last season
  • Luke Frampton, Western Kentucky – eligible after transfer from Davidson
  • Anthony Gaines, Northwestern – fully medically cleared after only playing 10 games due to injury last season

  • Tyler Polley, UConn – fully cleared for live action after knee injury last year
  • Anthony Roberts, St Bonaventure – eligible after transfer from Kent State
  • Jacob Toppin, Kentucky – school is awaiting results on waiver for eligibility, had been discussion he might sit year out (which he still might)
  • Alexis Yetna, South Florida – so far only cleared for non-contact work after missing all of last season

CBB Player Updates – Week of September 21-27

As the season gets closer to practices starting we are beginning to get injury updates from teams. Robby Carmody (Notre Dame) will be out for the start of the season, we also got updates on 5 different Texas players who dealt with injuries last season.

  • Robby Carmody, Notre Dame – broken kneecap, will have surgery – out until December
  • Devonaire Doutrive, Boise State – waiver for fall eligibility denied, will be eligible in winter
  • Jase Febres, Texas – knee, still a few weeks away
  • Patrick Good, ETSU – will opt out of season for personal/family reasons
  • Andrew Jones, Texas – hip, could be cleared next week
  • Duncan LeXander, Charleston Southern – enters transfer portal
  • Gerald Liddell, Texas – back, has been cleared
  • Asbjorn Midtgaard, Grand Canyon – eligible after transfer from Wichita State
  • Austin Mueller, Wyoming – no longer playing basketball, at least in part due to injuries
  • Ugo Obasi, Virginia – out for season with injury
  • Koreem Ozier, Louisiana Monroe – eligible after transfer from Sacred Heart
  • Aaryn Rai, Dartmouth – enters transfer portal as a grad transfer

CBB Player Updates – Week of September 14-20

Most of the news this week again centered around waivers for eligibility being granted, with Jamarius Burton (Texas Tech) and Tyrese Martin (UConn) being some of the highlights.

On Friday came the news that Iowa State’s Blake Hinson will miss the season due to an ongoing medical condition.

  • Andre Adams, Boston College – reports of a season-ending injury for the grad transfer from Southern Utah
  • Jamal Bieniemy, UTEP – eligible after transfer from Oklahoma
  • James Bishop, George Washington – eligible after transfer from LSU
  • Jamarius Burton, Texas Tech – eligible after transfer from Wichita State
  • Je’Lani Clark, Nevada – not enrolled in school and has been removed from the roster
  • Noah Fernandes, UMass – eligible after transfer from Wichita State
  • Juwan Gary, Alabama – not yet returned to action (knee)
  • Raymond Hawkins, Long Beach State – eligible after transfer from Alabama

CBB Player Updates – Week of September 7-13

The early news this week was South Alabama’s Michael Flowers going public with his frustration that Western Michigan (where he transferred from & averaged 16.9 points last season) wasn’t cooperating and he had been denied an eligibility waiver.

Some transfer eligibility waivers were granted on Thursday, which also saw the news of Western Kentucky’s Charles Bassey returning from injury to full-contact drills with the team.

Also the bizarre news this week that Buffalo’s Malik Zachery was charged with assault in relation to the stabbing of Canisius’ Scott Hitchon, which somehow resulted from a pickup basketball game.

  • Scott Hitchon, Canisius – identified as player stabbed by Buffalo’s Malik Zachery, has been released from hospital

  • Makur Maker, Howard – top recruit is reported to be eligible to play this season
