CFB Injuries & Updates – Mon. January 4

In injury updates, Ohio State QB Justin Fields is definitely expected to play in the title game, but the team would not discuss any details on the ribs/torso injury he played through in the semifinal game. Alabama WR Jaylen Waddle will reportedly return to practice tomorrow after an ankle injury earlier in October was thought to have knocked him out for the season, but his status for the title game is not yet known.

Notable players entering the transfer portal were Wake Forest RB Kenneth Walker, App State RB Marcus Williams, Houston WR Keith Corbin, Kentucky QB Terry Wilson, and Oklahoma WR Charleston Rambo. ULM TE Josh Pederson withdrew his name from the transfer portal.

Announcing they would return next season included Ole Miss WR Braylon Sanders, UNC WR Beau Corrales, Tennessee WR Velus Jones, Colorado State RB Marcus McElroy, and South Carolina TE Nick Muse.

Announcing transfer destinations were QB Jack Coan (Wisconsin to Notre Dame), WR Brandon Bowling (Arkansas State to Utah State), QB Shai Werts (Georgia Southern to Louisville, as an Athlete) and RB Drake Anderson (Northwestern to Arizona).

Declaring for the NFL Draft were USC WR Tyler Vaughns, Auburn WR Seth Williams, and Troy WR Khalil McClain.

  • Jack Coan, Wisconsin – will transfer to Notre Dame
  • Justin Fields, Ohio State – is “definitely expected” to play in the title game after taking a hard shot to the torso/ribs in the semifinal game, interestingly he was supposed to have media availability Monday but the team pushed that back to later in the week

  • Shai Werts, Georgia Southern – commits to Louisville as an athlete/WR
  • Terry Wilson, Kentucky – enters the transfer portal

CFB Injuries & Updates – Sun. January 3

Players declaring for the NFL Draft on Sunday included Texas QB Sam Ehlinger, Missouri WR Damon Hazelton, and Arizona RB Gary Brightwell.

Notable players entering the transfer portal were San Jose State WR Tre Walker and Liberty RB Peytton Pickett. Tulsa WR Josh Johnson & Wisconsin WR Kendric Pryor were among those announcing they will return next season.

Announcing transfer destinations included WR KeSean Carter (Texas Tech to Houston), QB Chandler Morris (Oklahoma to TCU) and WR Lincoln Victor (Hawaii to Washington State).

On Saturday Oregon RB CJ Verdell and Ole Miss RB Jerrion Ealy & WR Braylon Sanders did not play in their bowl games. Indiana QB Jack Tuttle played through a shoulder separation.

Notable players entering the transfer portal were LSU TE Arik Gilbert, and Notre Dame RBs Jafar Armstrong (wants to be a WR again) & Jahmir Smith.

Announcing they would return next season included Iowa State QB Brock Purdy, Troy RB BJ Smith, Kentucky WR Josh Ali & Wisconsin TE Jake Ferguson.

On Friday Cincinnati RB Gerrid Doaks, Auburn RB Tank Bigsby & Ohio State RB Master Teague were unavailable for their bowl games, while Ohio State WR Chris Olave returned to action. Oregon RB CJ Verdell traveled to the bowl game and may be a gametime decision Saturday.

Notable players entering the transfer portal were Arkansas State WR Brandon Bowling and Wisconsin RB Nakia Watson. Oklahoma RB Kennedy Brooks & Miami RB Cam’Ron Harris will return to school next season.

CFB Injuries & Updates – Thur. December 31

On Thursday came news that Miami QB D’Eriq King suffered a torn ACL in the bowl and will need surgery. San Jose State WR Bailey Gaither (undisclosed) and Ball State WR Justin Hall (injury) did not play in their bowl games Thursday.

Notable players entering the transfer portal were Oklahoma QB Chandler Morris, Georgia Southern QB Shai Werts, UNLV WR Mekhi Stevenson, South Carolina RB Deshaun Fenwick, and Arizona WR Drew Dixon.

Announcing transfer destinations were WR Andrew Parchment (Kansas to Florida State), WR Ahmarean Brown (Georgia Tech to South Carolina) and QB Patrick O’Brien (Colorado State to Washington).

CFB Injuries & Updates – Wed. December 30

On Wednesday Auburn RB Tank Bigsby was said to be hopeful for the bowl game, while teammate RB DJ Williams has looked good in bowl practice. Georgia RB James Cook will not play in their bowl due to a death in his family. Oklahoma TE Austin Stogner returned to action in the Cotton Bowl, as did Wisconsin RB Jalen Berger in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl.

Notable players entering the transfer portal were QB Ryan Hilinski (South Carolina), while Colorado State TE Trey McBride announced he would return next season.

Declaring for the NFL Draft were RB Mekhi Sargent (Iowa), WR Jacob Harris (UCF), and TE Cary Angeline after the bowl (NC State).
