CFB Injuries & Updates – Sun. December 27

On Sunday Oklahoma State WR Tylan Wallace made it sound like he will play in the bowl game (assuming he is healthy?), while teammate RB LD Brown has been moving around better in practice leading up to the bowl.

Notable players entering the transfer portal were RB Drake Anderson (Northwestern). Announcing transfer destinations were QB Rocky Lombardi (Michigan State to Northern Illinois), QB JT Shrout (Tennessee to Colorado) and QB Bailey Zappe (Houston Baptist to Western Kentucky).

Declaring for the NFL Draft were RB CJ Marable (Coastal Carolina), and WR Brandon Smith (Iowa).

CBB Injuries & Updates from Sat. December 26

On Saturday Caleb Mills (Houston) was back in action after dealing with ankle injuries but Javonte Smart did not play for LSU due to covid protocols. Robbie Beran (Northwestern) played off the bench after an ankle injury last game, and Terrence Clarke (Kentucky) moved to playing off the bench as he deals with an ankle injury.

Jordan Miller (George Mason) came off the bench after serving a two-game suspension, and for LSU Shareef O’Neal was back in action, but Byran Penn-Johnson is away from the team for personal reasons right now.

CFB Injuries & Updates – Fri-Sat. December 25-26

Saturday morning brought the tragic news that Utah RB Ty Jordan died after an apparent accidental shooting. On Friday Buffalo RB Jaret Patterson did not suit up for the bowl game after previous reports were that he was expected to play. Missing Saturday’s bowl games were Liberty WR CJ Yarbrough & UTSA RB Brenden Brady. Looking ahead, Wisconsin QB Graham Mertz should be good for their bowl game.

Notable players entering the transfer portal were QB Jordan McCloud (South Florida) WR Warren Thompson (Florida State), and QB Darriel Mack announced he would transfer from UCF to Old Dominion.

Declaring for the NFL Draft was RB Javonte Williams (UNC), while Miami QB D’Eriq King announced he would return next season.

CBB Injuries & Updates from Thur-Fri. December 24-25

On Friday Joey Hauser started for Michigan State after dealing with a knee injury suffered in his last game. Isaiah Ihnen was back in the starting lineup for Minnesota, and Darryl Morsell for the first time this season came off the bench for Maryland.

In some injury updates, Cameron Tyson (Houston) will not travel for the game Saturday.

  • Hunter Dickinson, Michigan – got his second start of the season since Austin Davis went out with a foot injury, went for 13 pts/14 rebs/32 mins after putting up 20 pts/27 mins in his first start
  • Joey Hauser, Michigan State – started Fri. after dealing with knee injury during last game – 27 points in 29 minutes

CFB Injuries & Updates – Thur. December 24

Liberty QB Malik Willis returned to practice a week ago after having Covid and is expected to play in the bowl game. Western Kentucky WR Dayton Wade is expected back for the bowl, but teammate WR Xavier Lane is still expected to be out. In the Thursday bowl game Houston was unexpectedly missing WRs Keith Corbin, Bryson Smith, and Jeremy Singleton.

Notable players entering the transfer portal were QB Ethan Garbers (Washington) and WR Malik Murray (Georgia Southern, their leading receiver in a run-heavy offense). QB Grant Gunnell announced he would transfer from Arizona to Memphis.

On Wednesday Georgia Southern QB Shai Werts returned to action, and Memphis TE Sean Dykes played after leaving his last game with an injury. Houston WR Marquez Stevenson declared for the NFL Draft the day before his team’s bowl game.

Notable players entering the transfer portal were WR Nykeim Johnson (Syracuse) and QB Lance LeGendre (Maryland), while ULM QB Colby Suits withdrew from the portal. Announcing his transfer destination was QB Chase Brice (Duke to App State). CBB Injuries & Updates from Wed. December 23

On Wednesday suffering in-game injuries were Robbie Beran (Northwestern) who left in the first half with an apparent ankle injury, Jacob Young (Rutgers) who took a hard fall in the second half and did not return, and Josiah-Jordan James (Tennessee) who left in the second half with a knee injury but was said to be fine in postgame.

Returning to action after missing time was Marcus Shaver (Boise State), but Aaron Thompson (Butler) and Mawot Mag (Rutgers) sat out again. DePaul had a number of players inactive in their season-opener, most notably Jaylen Butz (injury) & Romeo Weems (covid-related). Elijah Joiner (Tulsa), a normal starter, did not play due to an Achilles injury.

In some injury updates, Michigan State’s Joey Hauser is likely to play Friday (knee), Tyler Polley (UConn) should return to full practice this week, and Mikael Jantunen (Utah) had surgery for a broken nose and is hopeful to be back by Dec 31. Arkansas’ Jalen Tate aggravated an ankle injury but is expected to be able to practice after Christmas, and Andre Jackson (UConn) is out indefinitely with a broken bone in his wrist.

Maceo Jack (George Washington) entered the transfer portal, he’s only averaging 6.9 pts this season after being in double-digits the past two years.

CBB Injuries & Updates from Tues. December 22

On Tuesday some players returning to action after missing time were Carlik Jones (Louisville), Marcus Sasser (Houston), JJ Miles (East Carolina), KeShawn Curry (VCU) & Cam Hayes (NC State).

Unexpected scratches were John Petty & James Rojas for Alabama (non-injury, sounded disciplinary), and Charles Bassey (Western Kentucky) with back spasms. Remaining sidelined were Caleb Mills (Houston), Matt Bradley (Cal), and Francisco Farabello (TCU).

In some injury updates, Wake Forest’s Tariq Ingraham is out for the season for covid-related reasons, and teammate Ian DuBose is out indefinitely for “medical reasons”. Pitt lost Justin Champagnie (17.8 ppg) for 6-8 weeks with a knee injury, while Au’Diese Toney did not play Tuesday with an ankle injury.

Cliff Omoruyi (Rutgers) is out indefinitely with a knee sprain. In great news Keyontae Johnson (Florida) was released from the hospital but is expected to miss the rest of the season.

After starting the first three games of the season, Auburn’s Tyrell Jones did not play Tuesday, and word came out that he had entered the transfer portal.
