CFB Injury Updates from Sat December 19

I break down the injury news from this past weekend with notes on each player who may have been dealing with injuries.

A few notes about this list, being on it does not for sure mean a player is “injured”, but rather:

  • They may have missed the game due to a known injury (ok, this does mean they are injured)
  • They may have gone out of the game due to injury and not returned (sometimes with an official announcement from the team)
  • They may have left the game but returned, or at least attempted to return (sometimes these guys end up banged up enough to miss future games)
  • They may have had a vague twitter mention about possibly being injured or leaving a game, so it’s something on my radar

I’ll continue to post any updates I see during the week, those will be added to daily updates as well as the injury database.

List of Potential Injury News from Sat Dec 19 (unless noted):

  • WR Chris Autman-Bell, Minnesota – took a big hit on a kickoff return in the 3rd quarter, after a trip to the medical tent he was on the sideline wearing a jacket over his uniform with no helmet
  • RB BJ Baylor, Oregon State – the broadcast shared that he suffered an ankle injury in the first half and was on crutches and done for the day
  • WR Frank Darby, Arizona State – after the game started the team reported he had opted out, he later clarified to reporters that he had not opted out but was away for personal family reasons
  • RB Gerrid Doaks, Cincinnati – in the 3rd quarter he was seen riding a bike on the sideline, did not appear to return to action
  • RB Demetric Felton, UCLA – participated in senior day activities then after the game started it was shared he was unavailable, on Sunday he declared for the NFL draft, so appears he opted out of the final game
  • QB Justin Fields, Ohio State – was seen wearing a thumb wrap late in the game, in postgame it was said he had a sprain and would get an X-ray, on Sunday a coach quote was that “he will be fine”
  • RB Eric Gray, Tennessee – in pregame it was shared he was unavailable, as Tennessee was under investigation with compliance issues there was speculation it may be related to that but in postgame no clarity was given
  • QB Luke McCaffrey, Nebraska – was dressed in pregame but then for the game was in street clothes on the sideline helping signal plays, he was not available for injury reasons
  • QB Graham Mertz, Wisconsin – went to the locker room after taking an apparent hit to the head in the 3rd quarter, the team reported he had an upper body injury and he did not return to action but was on the sideline without pads or helmet
  • WR Chris Olave, Ohio State – was on the inactive report in pregame, presumably for covid-related reasons
  • WR Khalil Shakir, Boise State – in the 3rd quarter he was helped to the injury tent grabbing at his leg after a play (hamstring?), did not return
  • QB Kedon Slovis, USC – on the final play of the game Friday he landed on his shoulder, in postgame it was said he would have X-rays
  • RB Isaiah Spiller, Texas A&M – was seen favoring his right ankle late and hobbled off the field after a run in the 2nd half, went to the training tent and did not return to action but was seen on the sideline and with the team comfortably ahead, seemed precautionary
  • WR Amon-Ra St. Brown, USC – injured in the 3rd quarter Friday as he landed on his arm, in postgame it was shared to be an AC sprain
  • RB Master Teague, Ohio State – only had two carries early in the game and did not return, in postgame it was shared he was “out of the game” and will be evaluated
