CFB Injuries & Updates – Mon. January 4

In injury updates, Ohio State QB Justin Fields is definitely expected to play in the title game, but the team would not discuss any details on the ribs/torso injury he played through in the semifinal game. Alabama WR Jaylen Waddle will reportedly return to practice tomorrow after an ankle injury earlier in October was thought to have knocked him out for the season, but his status for the title game is not yet known.

Notable players entering the transfer portal were Wake Forest RB Kenneth Walker, App State RB Marcus Williams, Houston WR Keith Corbin, Kentucky QB Terry Wilson, and Oklahoma WR Charleston Rambo. ULM TE Josh Pederson withdrew his name from the transfer portal.

Announcing they would return next season included Ole Miss WR Braylon Sanders, UNC WR Beau Corrales, Tennessee WR Velus Jones, Colorado State RB Marcus McElroy, and South Carolina TE Nick Muse.

Announcing transfer destinations were QB Jack Coan (Wisconsin to Notre Dame), WR Brandon Bowling (Arkansas State to Utah State), QB Shai Werts (Georgia Southern to Louisville, as an Athlete) and RB Drake Anderson (Northwestern to Arizona).

Players declaring for the NFL Draft on Sunday included Texas QB Sam Ehlinger, Missouri WR Damon Hazelton, and Arizona RB Gary Brightwell.

On Thursday came news that Miami QB D’Eriq King suffered a torn ACL in the bowl and will need surgery. San Jose State WR Bailey Gaither (undisclosed) and Ball State WR Justin Hall (injury) did not play in their bowl games Thursday.

Georgia RB James Cook will not play in their bowl due to a death in his family. On Tuesday Oklahoma WR Jadon Haselwood was reported to be out for their bowl game while teammate TE Austin Stogner also is not expected to play. Oregon RB CJ Verdell is hopeful to play in the bowl, while Tulsa RB TK Wilkerson is not listed on the depth chart again this week.

Auburn WR Anthony Schwartz reportedly will opt out of the bowl game, but Army QB Tyhier Tyler says he will play. In Tuesday bowls Miami QB D’Eriq King and Texas QB Sam Ehlinger were both knocked out of the games with injuries.

CFB Injuries & Updates – Mon. December 28

On Monday came news that Wisconsin RB Jalen Berger sounds good for the bowl game but teammate WRs Danny Davis & Kendric Pryor appear doubtful. Florida WR Jacob Copeland will miss his bowl game due to a positive covid test. For Ohio State QB Justin Fields and WR Chris Olave sound ready to go this week. Cincinnati RB Gerrid Doaks is getting his leg healthy and is working toward being able to play. Ole Miss teammates RB Jerrion Ealy & WR Braylon Sanders do not yet appear ready to return for their bowl. Colorado WR La’Vontae Shenault was suspended for their bowl game.

CFB Injuries & Updates – Fri-Sat. December 25-26

Saturday morning brought the tragic news that Utah RB Ty Jordan died after an apparent accidental shooting. On Friday Buffalo RB Jaret Patterson did not suit up for the bowl game after previous reports were that he was expected to play. Missing Saturday’s bowl games were Liberty WR CJ Yarbrough & UTSA RB Brenden Brady. Looking ahead, Wisconsin QB Graham Mertz should be good for their bowl game.

Notable players entering the transfer portal were QB Jordan McCloud (South Florida) WR Warren Thompson (Florida State), and QB Darriel Mack announced he would transfer from UCF to Old Dominion.

Declaring for the NFL Draft was RB Javonte Williams (UNC), while Miami QB D’Eriq King announced he would return next season.
